Microsoft Internet Security and Accleration Server Instructions:
If you are using Microsoft ISA Server as a firewall, these instructions demonstrate the changes to work with OfficeSync.
The Microsoft ISA Server has an inbound protocol that you can use, but in order to communicate with the OfficeSync SQL server, you need to also create an Outbound TCP protocol on Port 1433.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Microsoft ISA Server Management Application.
- Open the Server you created under “Servers and Arrays”.
- Open the “Policy Elements” folder.
- Right click on Protocol Definitions and choose “New ->Definition…”:

- Enter “Microsoft SQL Outbound” for the protocol definition name, and press Next.

- Enter 1433 in the port number and make sure it is set to TCP Protocol type, and Direction is set to Outbound. Press Next.

- Select “No” for secondary connections, and press Next.

- Press Finish.
- Now, open the “Access Policy” folder, and select “Protocol Rules”.
- Right click on the main rule you have created which allows for standard Internet access on your network machines.
- Choose Properties.
- Select the Protocol Tab.
- Make sure the “Show only selected protocols” checkbox is not selected.

- Scroll down and check the two options: Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft SQL Outbound.
- Press the Apply button, and then the Ok button.
- Next right click on “Site and Content Rules”. Choose “New ->Rule…”
- Type “OfficeSync” in the edit field for the Site and content rule name. Press Next.

- Choose “Allow” on the Rule Action page. Press Next.

- Choose “Allow access based on destination.” Press Next.

- Choose “All destinations” on the Destination Sets page. Press Next.

- Press Finish on the summary page.
- Close the Microsoft ISA Server Management Application. The changes you have made will not take effect until you restart the services.
- Open Services Under “Administrative Tools”
- Scroll down to “Microsoft ISA Server Control” and restart the service by right clicking on the item and choosing “Restart”.
- You may be advised that the system will also restart the Microsoft Web Proxy, Microsoft Firewall, and Microsoft Scheduled Cache Content Download. Choose Yes.
- In our testing we occasionally found that the above three services and the Microsoft ISA Server Control would not all Restart. If this happens, just right click on each one and choose Restart.
- When the Microsoft ISA Server restarts you should be able to run OfficeSync Office Manager or Job Monitor from any network computer.
