1. Job site too muddy to work? Now what?

A survey crew arrived on site to stake out a parking lot so that concrete curbing formwork could get started, but unfortunately they discovered that a water-main break had flooded most of the area in which they had planned to work that day. Now we had a survey crew spinning its wheels. No problem. The crew chief placed a quick call to his project manager to apprise her of the situation. The project manager suggested that they drive a short distance to a new sub-division, to stake out a cul-de-sac there. While on his way, the crew chief retrieved the new job data - sent wirelessly to his hand-held data collector using OfficeSync . The crew arrived minutes later, job in hand, ready to go. Round trip time saved? 90 minutes.

2. Not sure if you took enough shots? Now What?

A survey crew had just wrapped up their traverse for a new road bed through a long narrow canyon. They surveyed many points, but couldn't be sure that they had everything they needed. It would be costly to travel out to the site again in case they needed to take more shots, but what could they do? If only the supervisor could review the data before they left the site. No problem. The crew chief walked to his truck and connected his data collector to the OfficeSync field kit and downloaded their job data to the office. 3. The survey crew has to leave, but we have no data yet. Now What?

It would take at least a couple of hours for the survey crew to get to the job site and they wanted to get underway right now. No problem. But it would take at least a couple of hours to tear down, pack up, drive back to the office and get the new job data and then get back on site again and then setup our gear again. 6. The Building Location needs to be Recalculated. Now What?

Out at the site the Developer decided to move the building 0.4' and rotate it by 5 degrees.  Great.  Rather to do the computations in the data collector, our crew asked the office to do it with their survey package.  In 5 minutes they had a new coordinate file, and they didn't have to do the COGO on the little data collector screen.  With 87 points on that building it would have taken them quite a while, and with the tiny screen it is a lot harder than with the COGO in the office.  "Not only was the calculation a lot faster, I had the extra eyes of the office guys to check it out, plus the supervisor put his stamp on it.  Saved me both time and having to explain it all back in the office."

7. Junior Crew is Confused by the Evidence? 

We sent our Junior crew to do a survey on the island, and with the ferry time and driving it is almost 4 hours to get there.  When they got there they found less evidence than expected, and weren't sure what to do.  We had them send in the data collector file, and sure enough our senior surveyor knew exactly what they had run into, because he had worked that area for years. He asked them to pick up two more ties to tighten up the network. They would have packed up and wasted over 8 hours of travel and setup time just to sort it out.  "The incredible time savings on this one job paid for the system for months. "

8. The Architect needs it NOW
