Field Connect is an elegant and easy to use application that installs on PDAs and data collectors used by field personnel. It enables the transfer of any files from the field to the office and back again. Field Connect is designed for quick learning and hassle-free operation so you can be up and running in minutes.
Field Connect is designed to work both online and offline, so you can login and prepare files for transfer whenever it is convenient. If cellular service is interrupted, Field Connect will re-establish the connection and resume file transfer automatically. The auto feature enables hands-free data upload, which is useful while driving to the job site or working on other tasks.
Field Connect can be installed on a variety of handheld devices with Windows operating systems (Windows CE, Pocket PC, or Mobile 2003), and can work with all data collector software types (FieldGenius, TDS Survey Pro, Trimble Survey Controller, or Carlson SurvCE, etc).
Using On-Board Data Collection?
Many Total Stations and GPS receivers collect data into Compact Flash cards. By using an inexpensive PDA, you can transfer files by popping the Compact Flash card out of your Total Station or GPS receiver and inserting it into the PDA. Then use the Field Kit (below) to move the files. All you need to get is a PDA with the right configuration of expansion slots, and a port that can be configured as a serial port. Some Windows Pocket PC models have USB support only, so they will not connect to a serial modem. A good example of a device that can be used for this is the HP iPAQ 2215 model. It has both a Compact Flash and a Secure Digital slot, plus a short serial adapter cable is available.
